Cancer
"Cancer, group of more than 100 distinct diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. In the early 21st century some 12 million new cancer cases were diagnosed worldwide each year, and the disease affected one in every three persons born in developed countries. Hence, cancer is a major cause of sickness and death throughout the world."
From Encyclopedia Brittanica
"The earlier cancer is diagnosed and treated, the better the chance of its being cured. Some types of cancer -- such as those of the skin, breast, mouth, testicles, prostate, and rectum -- may be detected by routine self-exam or other screening measures before the symptoms become serious. Most cases of cancer are detected and diagnosed after a tumor can be felt or when other symptoms develop. In a few cases, cancer is diagnosed incidentally as a result of evaluating or treating other medical conditions."
From WebMD
Cancer has many causes, but the most common are over exposure to carcinogens (cancer causing toxins) such as cigarette smoke or other toxic chemicals. The world that we live in is inundated with toxins and the best way to prevent exposure from as many as you can is to avoid them. Avoid smoking and being around second hand smoke as much as possible and avoid contact with other known toxins. To get an idea of ways we are exposed to toxins and how to avoid them take a look at the toxin sheet to the right.
Another way to prevent cancer is by keeping your body and immune system as healthy as possible so that it can destroy any cancer cells that may grow. The best way to do this is with proper diet and exercise and supplements if needed.
If diagnosed with cancer it is very important to understand the type of cancer and consult with an oncologist for the most effective treatments available so that you have well rounded information and make an informed decision about your treatment plan.
I have met people who have had cancer and gotten chemotherapy and radiation treatments which saved their lives and I have also met people who had cancer and used dietary interventions and herbal remedies which healed their cancer as well.
No matter what treatment plan you choose a healthy (anti-cancer) diet should always be implemented in conjunction.
Anti-cancer diets typically incorporate brightly colored fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants. It is my hope that we will all integrate these foods into our diets on a regular basis with out a diagnosis of disease.
